Santa Ana

A complete remodel and addition to a 1928 Spanish Colonial Revival House in the Balboa Terrace Neighborhood in San Francisco.

The notable historic elements at the exterior of the house are located towards the front elevation, while the rear of the structure is composed of more minimal, simple forms. A consistent approach to the cement plaster finish and to the window detailing is incorporated throughout, tying the front and rear of the house together in a seamless way.

Similarly at the interior, the house is a hybrid of maintaining historic wood trim elements towards the front of the house while receiving new finishes at the upper level and rear of the home. The Dining/Kitchen area is opening up to create greater connections between the rooms at the lower level, a necessary update for a more modern lifestyle. An exceptional view of the Pacific Ocean from the newly raised primary suite is maximized thanks to floor-to-ceiling sliders that create a seamless indoor-outdoor connection between the bedroom and roof deck.
